IT ALL STARTS HERE

The Converse Rubber Shoe Company opens in Malden, Massachusetts under founder Marquis Mills.

CALLING CHUCK TAYLOR

Charles “Chuck” Taylor joins the Converse family as a salesman. He travels across the U.S. promoting the brand as a player and coach for the company’s basketball team, The Converse All Stars.

JACK PURCELL JOINS

Jack Purcell collaborates with B.F. Goodrich on a badminton shoe, releasing the Jack Purcell. Decades later it would become a popular style of casual footwear and Converse would purchase its rights.

FIRST WOMAN ATHLETE

Chris Evert is the first female athlete to sign an individual endorsement deal with Converse. Sponsored by Converse for the rest of her career, she released numerous shoes alongside the brand under her name.

OFFICIAL OLYMPIC FOOTWEAR

Converse is the official footwear sponsor of the 1984 Olympics. The U.S. Men’s and Women’s basketball teams win gold in Converse shoes, featuring athletes in Pro Stars.

SWOOSHED

NIKE, Inc. buys Converse. The Wall Street Journal noted, in a deal with cultural significance that outweighs monetary value, the maker of the world’s highest-tech sneakers will pay $305 million for the maker of some of the lowest-tech ones.

TYLER TEAM UP

Tyler, the Creator teams up with Converse, saying “Converse is allowing me to bloom, no pun intended, and it’s great.” Converse and Tyler’s GOLF le FLEUR signature collection would be the first of a long-term partnership.

SABLONE & SKATE LEGACY

Converse and Alexis Sablone co-create the AS-1 Pro, designed for life on and off the board. With its unveiling, Converse releases a documentary featuring Alexis skating down the Guggenheim Museum’s spiral ramp.
